UN: Israeli damages payment for Gaza destruction not finalized

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky ..... said an accord had been reached "in principal," but that details would be disclosed when it had been concluded and a payment made.

An assessment made by a team of UN officials in Gaza the summer after Israel's war on the area assessed damage to a UN warehouse and three schools at 11.4 million US dollars.

Destruction to the central warehouse saw hundreds of tons of food and medicine incinerated.

The UN report said the issue was one of those on the agenda during a recent discussion between Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in and Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak over the phone.
