Palestinian Authority to finance work projects for ex-detainees

Ma'an- In an effort to rehabilitate the hundreds of Palestinians every year who are released from Israeli prison after years in detention, the Palestinian Authority announced a job creation program focusing on providing finances for agricultural projects.

The effort, a government statement said, comes as part of an initiative to "assimilate ex-detainees in the development process."

As of 2010, there were at least 7,000 Palestinians in Israeli detention facilities, in 2009 that number was over 10,000. Many of the detainees spend years in prison, and only some are able to complete their studies while incarcerated. Read more
