Report: Israeli Human Rights violations in Occupied Palestinian Territory; January 6-12, 2011

PCHR- Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) Continued Systematic Attacks against Palestinian Civilians and Property in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT)

· IOF extra-judicially executed a Palestinian civilian in Hebron and an activist in the Gaza Strip.

· IOF killed two Palestinian civilians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

- Two Palestinian civilians were wounded by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

· IOF continued to target Palestinian workers, farmers and fishermen in border areas in the Gaza Strip.

...Shooting:

During the reporting period, IOF killed 4 Palestinians, including 3 civilians, and wounded 6 others, including a child, in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

On 07 January 2011, IOF killed and old man and arrested the targeted person in Hebron. IOF admitted responsibility for the attack, but claimed that Israeli soldiers fired at the victim by mistake. An Israeli military spokesman claimed that the soldiers "fired at him thinking that he was armed and might pose a threat to their lives." Israeli soldiers apparently thought the victim was a wanted person.

On 08 January 2011, Israeli soldiers positioned at al-Hamra checkpoint, southeast of Tubas, killed a Palestinian civilian. Initial investigations conducted by IOF indicated that the victims did not pose and threat to the lives of Israeli soldiers. It is worth noting that Israeli soldiers positioned at the same checkpoint killed another Palestinian civilian in similar circumstances on 02 January 2011.

On 10 January 2011, a Palestinian civilian was wounded when IOF that had moved into Beit Liqya village, west of Ramallah, fired at a number of children and young men who threw stones at IOF military vehicles.

During the reporting period, IOF used excessive force to disperse peaceful demonstrations organized in protest to Israeli settlement activities and the construction of the annexation wall. As a result, 4 Palestinian civilians, including a child, were wounded, and dozens of Palestinian civilians and international human rights defenders suffered from tear gas inhalation or sustained bruises. IOF also arrested a Palestinian civilian.



- IOF arrested 4 Palestinian fishermen, including two children.

· Israeli warplanes attacked a number of targets in the Gaza Strip.

- A number of training sites were bombarded.

· IOF continued to use force against peaceful protests in the West Bank.

- 4 Palestinian civilians, including a child, were wounded.

- IOF arrested a Palestinian civilian.

· IOF conducted 40 incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank and a limited one into the Gaza Strip.

- IOF arrested 15 Palestinian civilians, including a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and 3 children. Read more
