Studies show that US coverage is Israeli-centric. The main bureaus for CNN, Associated Press, Time, etc. are located in Israel and often staffed by Israelis. The son of the NY Times bureau chief is in the Israeli army;"pundit" Jeffrey Goldberg served in the IDF; Wolf Blitzer worked for AIPAC. Because the U.S. gives Israel over $8 million/day - more than to any other nation - we feel it is essential that we be fully informed on this region. Below are news reports to augment mainstream coverage.

Extensive checks slow Nablus checkpoints

Ma'an Israeli checks choked off civilian movement at the Za'atara (Tappuah) and Beit Furik military checkpoints around Nablus early Monday, as witnesses said soldiers checked the ID cards of each traveler.

Reports of a two kilometer backlog extending from the Za’tara checkpoint to the Beita village road and two hour waits angered residents traveling to work and school. Smaller backlogs were reported at the Beit Furik and At-Tanib (New Beit Iba) checkpoints.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said she was unaware of any officially mandated increases in security measures in the area, but was able to confirm an accident between a settler car and a Palestinian civilian vehicle.

Witnesses said the settler car collided with the vehicle of a young Nablus man, and thereafter fled the scene. Medics with the Palestine Red Crescent Society identified the injured man as 25-year-old Ahmad Shalhoub, who was evacuated to the Rafidiya hospital in Nablus for treatment of light wounds. Full story
