Claim of prisoner swap raises hopes, rustles feathers

Ma'an- A former Egyptian ambassador told a Cairo-based paper Thursday that 1,000 Palestinian prisoners could be released "within hours," in exchange for the freedom of a captured Israeli soldier.

The report sparked immediate reactions; hope from the families of prisoners, and swift denials from officials in Israel and Gaza. Finally, speaking to Ma'an, the source quoted in the Egyptian paper denied the information, saying his comments were misrepresented. Read more
