The Israeli state prosecution made known on Tuesday that it would not continue to prosecute an Israeli settler that was filmed shooting Palestinians at close range in Hebron last December.
The right-wing settler, that lives in the illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba in Hebron, was caught on tape by the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem. He was shooting at Palestinians during the evacuation of a settler house in Hebron, that stirred up a lot of violent reactions of settlers all over the West Bank. The prosecution decided not to try the settler because this could expose classified information that might harm the security of the state if revealed. The settler’s attorney had requested to reveal the secret evidence. The prosecution then decided that if it was obligated to reveal the information it would drop the charges all together.B’tselem started last year with handing out cameras to document the violations of the human rights of Palestinians inside the West Bank, by the Israeli army and settlers. So far a few cases have received international attention, after the videos were aired on major news stations around the world.
