Ma'an
Accompanied by his father-in-law, Ramzy Qabaha, 31, from the village of Barta’ Ash-Sharqieyah near the West Bank city of Jenin, had just proudly watched his wife walk the stage at the graduation ceremony.
While they were on their way home, an Israeli army unit operating in the area stopped the small group at the village's crossing and one of the soldiers ordered Qabaha's wife to remove her shirt as part of a physical search, according to two village council members.
Ghassan Qabaha, head of the village council, told Ma'an that the husband refused the soldier's demand and a clash erupted between Qabaha and six other Israeli soldiers, who assaulted the Palestinian before moving him to a local jail.
According to the official, soldiers had forced the woman to repeatedly pass through a metal detector they had set up in the area, which would not stop beeping, before ultimately deciding that they would strip search the recent graduate.
Following the clash, the crossing was closed for three hours and residents were not permitted to travel inside or outside of the village. The wife and her father were also detained for several hours while Ramzy was locked in a solitary-confinement type room for seven hours before being transferred early Saturday to an undisclosed location.
