Palestinian prisoner goes on hunger strike in Asqalan

Wafa– Palestinian prisoner Atef Wreidat, 45, from Al-Dahiriyeh town south of Hebron, Sunday began a hunger strike in Asqalan Israeli prison in protest of the prison administration's arbitrary measures against him, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC).

Head of PPC in Hebron, Amjad Najjar, told WAFA that Israeli authorities have continually neglected Wreidat’s deteriorating health condition due to heart problems, diabetes and high blood pressure. Wreidat, father of two young girls, needs an open-heart surgery.

Wreidat, who was arrested in 1982 at 16 years of age and served 11 years in Israeli prisons, was released in 1993 in very bad health condition due to heart disease. In 2002, he was arrested again and sentenced to serve another 11 years in prison. Read more
