'Gaza – Brothers from the Az-Za’anin family in Beit Hanoun hosted a double wedding over the rubble of their home, destroyed by Israeli shells during the country’s war on the coastal region over the winter.
Grooms wore traditional robes with gold-colored embroidery and their guests also donned traditional white and embroidered capes and robes with traditional headdresses and jewelry, while the women’s section was awash in brightly colored embroidery and jingled with traditional headwear.
The family erected tents over the demolished home, and as the procession of family and friends made the traditional journey to collect the brides from their families and bring them to their new homes, they delivered the wedding party to the Bedouin-style shelters over the pebbled concrete and bent wire.
“This event shows that we are not going to cave to Israeli attacks,” said event organizer Saber Az-Za’anin. “It is an act of solidarity for Palestinians, showing we are strong in our history and can withstand the current hardships,” he said, “we are steadfast.” Full story
