Jewish delegate, wife of jailed leader among Rev. Council winners

Loud applause broke out Saturday evening as it was announced that "brother" Dr Uri Davis [Jewish Israeli] had been elected to the Fatah movement's largest governing body.

...... Some 80 new seats were elected in total...

Among the winners was Fadwa Barghouthi, the wife of jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouthi, who was himself elected to the movement's highest body, the Central Committee, last week.

Four days after ballots were cast, results were officially announced Saturday evening.

After a series of counters were fired for inaccuracy and more than 100 Bethlehem-area teachers were brought in to recount ballots, the Fatah elections committee said it had has computerized the results.

Accusations of faulty elections procedures and corruption surfaced following results for the Central Committee. Angry delegates said they would submit a memorandum to Abbas stating their rejection of those elections, which took place in Bethlehem from 4-13 August... Full story
