Settler familes anounce intention to take over Ramallah-area land

Twenty Israeli settler families will “go to the field” after the failure of a legal campaign to evict Palestinian families from 22 dunums of land in the Semiramis neighborhood of Ramallah.

The settlers, according to the Israeli paper Israel Hayoum (Israel Today) in its Monday edition, contacted several organizations claiming to have the deeds to the land on which several Palestinian homes are built, but none would take up the case.

The settler families, represented by lawyer Arieh King have claimed they purchased the lands in 1972 and have produced documents allegedly proving their ownership. Several previous cases saw the use of forged deeds and ownership documents.

According to the news article, the failure of Israeli organizations to take up the case will lead to a change in tactics by the settler families, who will now allegedly go to the neighborhood themselves and take over the land.

The village, once a suburb of Ramallah, was annexed to Israel when the state redrew the municipal boundaries in 1967. Full story
