Report: Israel shot 27 children working near the border over the past year

Defence for Children International - DCI reports that between March 26, 2010 and 17 February 2011 27 Israeli forces shot or shelled 27 children working near the border.

Among the reported incidents is Mustafa M. On 17 February 2011, 17-year old Mustafa was shot in his left leg while collecting building gravel about 30 meters from the border fence with Israel. On February 12 2011, 15-year old Mohammad was shot in his leg, also while collecting gravel.

Due to a severe lack of job opportunities and a shortage of construction material entering Gaza from Israel, hundreds of men and boys scavenge for building gravel and other items amongst the destroyed buildings close to the border fence.
