Former PA minister held at Israeli military checkpoint

Former Palestinian Minister of Prisoners Ashraf Al-Ajrami said that Israeli soldiers detained him at a West Bank military checkpoint for more than three hours on Sunday.

Al-Ajrami told Ma’an in a phone interview that an Israeli officer stopped his car at ther “Container” checkpoint near Bethlehem (on the Wadi Nar road) despite the fact that he has a “VIP card” used by Palestinian officials.

Palestinian officials, like normal Palestinians, continue to face long waits at Israel’s more than 600 checkpoints and roadblocks throughout the West Bank, in contrast with Israeli officials’ recent claims that they intend to ease freedom of movement.
